any recommendations as far as tracking this thing in the local area? are there any road courses or is it just autox? i wouldnt mind trying autox but ive heard that it really tear sup your tires and most people run a specific wheel/tire setup for it. The STi is my DD so ripping through the tires would be bad :)

Ill be at the glen with trackmasters at the end of august.
You get 4 on track sessions with an instructor that are 20 mins each and a 20-40 min ride in your instructors track car plus classroom sessions each day.

Out in my instructors car ('85 911 full on gutted caged track car) were were out with 911 GT3's many track Corvetts and even a couple of F430 SC's it was almost as much fun as driving. Overall I really like there events. Also PCA have a few events at the Glen.

Congrats on the new car. AutoX does not tear up your tires, whoever told you that has probably either never done it themselves, or they had an alignment problem (which would tear up tires on the street anyway). Performance tires are built to be driven like that! I autoX'ed and did track days on street tires in my DD STi for years and never had a problem. Next AutoX is the 20th, check the motorsports section for details.

Also, if you haven't heard about it yet, there is a track getting built in Brewerton, which should be ready for next season. Central New York Raceway Park...

Autocross does wear your tires & brakes more than just driving down the highway, but it's not like if you do one event your tires will instantly be bald - it's just a little accelerated wear, probably not even visible with a tread depth gauge before & after the event.

There are two exceptions to this:
1) If you run snow tires at a warm weather autocross you will severely overheat the tread, and it can literally fall apart on you (you'll find missing 'chunks' of tread). Even all-season tires should be exempt from this issue though, as they're meant to handle the warmer summer temperatures.

2) If you have a major alignment or underinflation issue, you can run on the shoulder of the tires too much and get really weird wear issues. Just raise your tire pressures to ~ 40psi front, 35psi rear before the event and you'll be just fine though. The higher pressures will actually make your car handle better in the lower-speed corners and will reduce wear on the tires.
