So at our SSM Scott and I were talking Carbon Fiber. Seems easy enough to make, main concern with carbon fiber is cost in parts. Well I figured until Scott and/or I actually make something we can share here what we have found may it be Supplies, How To's, Tips anything we can find in relation to making some awesome things out of Carbon Fiber.

>I found this UK store that offers kits you can buy to make your own molds and carbon fiber parts. http://www.carbonmods.co.uk/
They have even made their own youtube videos that show how to make CF http://youtu.be/IAdVO8Rkv6c
and making a mold http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qKrl1PPvliQ&feature=share&list=UUbFObs7_3PG1lYj6We6M_nA&index=1

>Also I found this store to purchase fairly large quantities of Carbon Fiber http://www.carbonfiberglass.com/

I haven't looked into "Vacuum Resin Infusion" yet but from what I gathered that is what you were talking about Scott. Just trying to figure which method to start with, Mold making or vacuum. I'd love to start making something as soon as possible so just figuring out everything I am going to need to actually do the job.
Any insight or anything related anyone can find, please don't hesitate to share.

Are you trying to make full Carbon parts, do carbon overlays, make parts from existing parts, or make new parts from molds?

Making full carbon parts from both existing parts and new molds. We're mostly just looking to do it for fun - marginal if anything performance benefits to be found. I think Dan's main eventual goal is to make some body panels for his car - mine is more to make small parts (brakets, bodywork, maybe eventually a steering wheel) for the kart.

There was a video series I watched one day when I was home sick. I'll see if I can find it.

Yeah, want to start off small. (It's less expensive when you mess up on a small scale) Make things like interior trim and move on to like mirror covers, vents and what not on my bumpers. And if it works out maybe go big like a hood. So for me make things from existing parts, at least to start with.

Now there are a lot of suppliers out there. I looked into this a long time ago and the main issue for me was getting the correct resin that wouldn't yellow. I did a sub enclosure for the trunk so uv wasn't too big of a concern for me. I would like to really give this a try again with something different.
